Getting good voices
TalkADay speaks with the voices installed on your phone. Downloading a high-quality voice makes pronunciation sound much more natural.
iPhone and iPad
- Open Settings, then Accessibility, then Read & Speak, then Voices.
- Choose your language, such as German or Japanese.
- Download a voice marked Enhanced or Premium. Premium is the most natural when available.
- Open TalkADay, go to Settings and tap Test voice.
Menu names can differ slightly between iOS versions.
Android
- Open Settings and search for text-to-speech output.
- Choose Speech Services by Google as the engine if it is available, then open its settings.
- Choose Install voice data and download your language.
- Open TalkADay, go to Settings and tap Test voice.
Menus vary by phone brand. On Samsung phones, look under General management, then Text-to-speech. If you cannot find it, search your Settings for "text-to-speech".
Common questions
How do I unlock a language?
Day 1 of every language is free. Tap a locked day to see your options: unlock one language, or all nine.
I bought a language but it is locked, or I have a new phone
Open the app and tap Restore Purchases. You need to be signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account you used to buy.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds for purchases are handled by Apple or Google, not by us. Use Apple's "Report a Problem" page or the Google Play order history.
Can I move my progress to another phone?
Yes. In the app, open Settings, create a transfer code, and paste it into the app on your other device. Your progress is stored on your phone and is not kept on any server.
Does it work offline?
Yes. All lessons are inside the app. Only purchasing or restoring needs an internet connection.
The audio sounds robotic or in the wrong accent
Download an Enhanced or Premium voice for your language using the steps above, then choose it under Voice in the app's Settings.
I found a mistake in a lesson
Thank you. Please use the button above and tell us the language, day and what looks wrong. Pronunciation guides are simplified spellings, and usage can vary by region, but we want to fix real errors.
